LRE
The least restrictive environment (LRE) is that individuals with disabilities are educated in an atmosphere as close as possible to the general education classroom. This concept is not based on the presumption that one setting fits all students with a particular type of disability. “The question is when, where, with whom, and to what extent are individuals with disabilities to be integrated” (Gargiulo, 2010, p. 78). The placements for each student are based on their needs (Gargiulo, 2010). The least restrictive environment lets children learn in a setting where they can be successful.
